Field Setup: Be Ready Before the First Visit, Not During It

Quick answer

Before your first booking, have your phone set up for GPS/scheduling, a basic pet first-aid kit on hand, and general supplies (extra waste bags, a spare leash, a key/lockbox system) ready to go. None of it is expensive, but scrambling for it mid-visit makes a bad first impression.

Typical cost
$40–$150
Typical time
1–2 days

Install a scheduling/booking app (the PetBizApp OPERATE tier is free), enable location services so visit check-ins work reliably, and consider a dedicated business number separate from your personal line. A portable charger is worth having for full-day routes.

Not a substitute for veterinary care, but enough to handle minor issues: gauze pads, self-adhesive wrap, antiseptic wipes, tweezers, a digital pet thermometer, a soft muzzle sized for larger dogs, and a printed list of 24-hour emergency vet clinics in your area.

Extra waste bags (always carry more than you think you'll need), a spare leash and slip lead, hand sanitizer and a small towel, and a labeled key/lockbox organizer system for client home access.
